This Happy Breed

May 29th 2011 21:47
(1944) Robert Newton, Celia Johnson, Stanley Holloway, John Mills. Dir: David Lean.
Review No:320

The happy and turbulent life of a London family between WW1 and WW2. Noel Coward’s cheerful upper-class look at working-class life is an unrealistically jolly bit of peace-time propaganda. It’s not dated well, but there is some more engaging strife in the 2nd half, and it’s well put together.
