The Long Goodbye
January 10th 2012 23:40
(1973) Elliot Gould, Nina Van Pallandt, Sterling Hayden, Jim Bouton, Mark Rydell. Dir: Robert Altman.
Marlowe inadvertently helps a friend flee after his wife’s murder, then helps a women find her alcoholic husband. Revisionist take on Chandler, with Marlowe a loser exploited by gangsters and the rich. An interesting idea with striking scenes, but keeps characters at such a distance it’s difficult connecting with them.
