A governess believes her two wards are being influenced by malevolent spirits. A visual tour-de-force and amongst the most haunting ghost stories ever made. The deep focus photography and stunning gothic setting create an unsettling world of psychological terror where repressed desires simmer to the surface. Child actors are superb.
