Scott of the Antarctic
June 12th 2011 20:55
(1948) John Mills, James Robertson Justice, Derek Bond, Kenneth More, John Gregson. Dir: Charles Frend.
Dramatisation of Scott’s ill-fated trek to the South Pole. Fails to get beneath Scott’s stiff-upper lip, but as it progresses the drama of their desperate situation becomes absolutely gripping, and heartbreaking. It’s detailed and unsentimental recreation of their hardships is fascinating, and the polar landscapes beautifully realised.
