Rasputin saves the Russian throne’s heir, but his behaviour threatens the monarchy. Suggests the Tsar’s inability to accept Rasputin’s vulgarities equate to the failings that will put him at odds with his people. Rickman’s superb, but the legend’s so bizarre that it’s always a stretch to make sense of it.
