Frankenstein

March 23rd 2011 22:38
(1931) Boris Karloff, Colin Clives, Edward Van Sloan, Elizabeth Allen. Dir: James Whale.
Review No.275

A scientist creates life from the body part of corpses, but quickly regrets his creation. Huge leap forward from Dracula. Whale creates an intoxicating atmosphere, with dark gothic sets and strong pacing building dramatically to the stunning creation sequence. Second half is weaker but Karloff and Clive keep you watching.
