Champagne Charlie

(1944) Tommy Trinder, Stanley Holloway, Betty Warren, Jean Kent. Dir: Alberto Cavalcanti.
A new music hall singer clashes with an old pro, whilst the halls themselves come under threat. There’s not enough plot for a whole film, after 45 minutes, once the lead’s conflict resolves, sub-plots come to the fore, but don’t hold the attention. The period atmos is good, but it’s not boisterous enough.
