Belated Birthday Gifts

May 29th 2009 20:01
This past week, thanks to belated birthday gifts, I added two movies to my DVD collection. These movies are Fantastic Four and The Wrestler. I already watched both films and enjoyed each one. While two completely different movies, Fantastic Four and The Wrestler did have one enjoyable element in common- character development.

The most interesting character in Fantastic Four is Ben Grimm, aka The Thing. Ben has a heroic heart which many people can’t see because they are blinded by his monster-like look. This internal/external conflict is what makes The Thing the most interesting character to watch develop in Fantastic Four.

Randy “the Ram” Robinson is the main character in The Wrestler and what makes his character so great is “the Ram” is realistically flawed. He makes mistakes just like we do in real life which makes him relatable. Because we can relate to him we care for him and want to see him overcome the odds in life.

Developing a character the audience can appeal to is one of the best ways to create a great movie. Sure, fights and special effects can make a movie flashy and cool but it is the characters that make a movie memorable. Successful characters are a combination of a well written script and good acting. Fantastic Four and The Wrestler have both.

Ready to Rock

May 28th 2009 19:51
I love music. Music played a crucial role in my life as a teenager which is why I think I’m so passionate for it. I could always count on music to be there for me. Whether I felt happy, sad, angry, or reflective there was always a song to match my mood allowing me to feel better. It is my love for music which makes me anticipate seeing Anvil: the Story of Anvil.

Anvil: the Story of Anvil is a documentary of the band Anvil. In the 1980s Anvil toured with some big name bands. Out of all the bands on the tour Anvil was the only one to not achieve Rock & Roll Excellency but they still stayed together. Anvil: the Story of Anvil examines Anvil’s journey and represents their last chance to reach Rock & Roll superstardom.

The commercials for the movie have drawn me in because the members of Anvil seem to have the same passion for music that I do. Out of all the movies in the movie theatre right now Anvil: the Story of Anvil is the number one movie I want to go see. I’m itching to make it to the theatre so I can watch Anvil’s story. Bottom line is Anvil has me ready to rock… in the movie theatre.

Let Me Introduce Myself

May 28th 2009 19:43
Hello! My name is Zach and welcome to my movie blog. I am very excited to start my blog here at orble.com. While at Notre Dame College (NDC) of Ohio I wrote a regular blog for the college’s website notredamecollege.edu about what life as a student is like at NDC. After graduating a few weeks ago I started to look for new blogging opportunity and that is how I found orble.com. I love to write and I love movies so a movie blog seem to be a perfect idea.

I think it is important if you are going to read somebody’s opinions about movies that you get to know a little about them and their preferences. Since you are going to be reading my commentary on movies I wanted to use this first blog as a way to introduce me to you. I am someone with a sense of humor. I even try to find the humor in a bad situation as a way to cheer up the people in those situations. Judging by my sense of humor it is only natural that my favorite genre of movies is comedies.

Comedies are great because they make you laugh and don’t drag time wise. Sometimes when you watch films you just can’t wait for the movie to be over because the movie drags in the beginning, middle, or at the end. That doesn’t seem to happen as much with comedies. Comedies are easier to fit into your schedule because they aren’t super long and they can really make you feel better on a bad day. After all, nothing is more powerful than a laugh.
