Charlie Wilson's War

January 26th 2008 19:46
Charlie Wilson's War
Charlie Wilson's War was directed by Mike Nichols who to the best of my recollection was the creator of the 1996 movie "The Birdcage" starring Robin Williams and Hank Azaria.
Aaron Sorkin wrote the screenplay, in his most recent past he has worked mostly in television. In his early days he wrote the play and movie "A few good men" featuring Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson and Demi Moore released in 1992.

Adapted from George Crile's book of the same title, this movie takes the words from the page and brings them to a very entertaining medium and this one doesn't disappoint.

This is based on a true story, which makes most movies true to life. But with added exuberance I am sure. Charlie Wilson was a congressman like no other, with questionable habits and an interesting way of getting things done. He shows an inside look into the happenings of covert operations and shows that our culture even decades ago would pay more attention to sexual or drug scandals, rather than a billion dollar battle/war fought against Afghanistan and the soviets.

I truly recommend this movie, as it is a clever and behind the scenes telling of history and shows us a little about what we are trying to accomplish now. As we are not as covert with our efforts in Afghanistan to this day.

Another reason to watch this new flick, would be to see the performance of Phillip Seymour Hoffman, who shines in his unique portrayal of a CIA field agent.

Top Choice Rental...Saving Private Ryan

January 14th 2008 04:38
Tom Hanks
Saving Private Ryan came out in 1998, which seems like a long time ago now, ten years! This movie was directed by Steven Spielberg and starred most notably Tom Hanks. With this great cast everyone easily shines and those who die in war are unexpected for the most part.

Written by Robert Rodat who has also written 'The Patriot' which starred Mel Gibson, was considered along with Harrison Ford for the lead role in Saving Private Ryan. No news on any upcoming projects and his bio doesn't give any new information on what he has been doing since 2000.

This will be my first 'Top Choice Rental' and I just felt inspired to share this title as it was great in '98 and is still an amazing movie, which brings you into the mindset of soldiers in a war.

Just remember Freedom isn't free and if you think it is you are FUBAR!

Thanks for visiting and comment if you like and i'll be sure to get back to you. My next few posts will include Charlie Wilson's War, The Bucket List and a Top Choice Actress, so stay tuned.
